CHARITIES

No matter where you are in your career, giving back should be part of your life plan. I’ve always been passionate about giving back. No matter where you are in your career, there are others coming up behind you. The desire to give back is one of the greatest gifts written into the hearts of humanity. You don’t have to look far to find someone who needs a friend, advice, or shelter. God provides each of us a generous bounty, which we can all share with the world through our time, money, love, or help.

Donating to charity is a major mood booster. The knowledge that you’re helping others is hugely empowering and, in turn, can make you feel happier and more fulfilled. Research has identified a link between making a donation to charity and increased activity in the area of the brain that registers pleasure - proving that as the old adage goes, it really is far better to give than to receive.

Additionally, Heels to Heal Crisis Counseling program educates victims on breaking the cycle of generational abuse and prevention of recurring abuse incidents.

why support us

With the help of the Greatest Event, Heels to Heal will be able to continue providing these critical counseling services and improve the overall mental health of children and adults that have received counseling.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, more than 6,000 Pinellas County residents suffer from the trauma of domestic violence in 2019. Researchers from the Kate Tiedemann College of Business at the University of South Florida Saint Petersburg analyzed local and national economic data on costs of medical care, emergency housing and lost wages as a result of domestic violence to determine the economic impact of domestic violence in Pinellas County is $132 million per year or roughly $22,000 per victim. Victims of sexual assault and domestic violence have economic barriers that prevent them from receiving crisis counseling services. Victims of abuse in Pinellas County entering the program result in 58% of victims that have no health insurance and 85% of the victims would not have been able to afford crisis counseling services without the assistance of Heels to Heal Crisis Counseling program. The effectiveness of counseling services provided by Heels to Heal to victims under this program result in reduced trauma related symptoms, improved quality of life, normal daily functioning and ability to work.

The Shawn Brown Foundation

mission statement

The Shawn Brown Foundation was created to help others, especially those families stricken by Cancer.

Shawn is a grateful and humble cancer survivor since 2008. He is passionate to help others and is motivated to use his musical talents as the platform to do so. Shawn has mentored hundreds of young musicians instrumentally, vocally, educationally and has had many fund raisers to help out as God leads him. The Shawn Brown Foundation has a stellar board of Community leaders that are also very passionate to be a part of this organization!

who is Shawn Brown

Shawn Brown was born to James Brown and Shirley Brown on November the 13,1962, he was the last of six siblings. Shirley Brown was a classically trained pianist and vocalist. James Brown was a chief/jazz vocalist in the United States Navy. This union produced a solid foundation as all of his siblings were musically nurtured and encouraged to pursue their talents. His brother, Hiram Brown, shared the same talents and mentored Shawn to become the entertainer he is today. Shirley Browns spiritual motivations embraced all of her family and grounded them with Christian convictions and a strong faith.

Shawn's musical journey began at the age of 3 when he began playing the piano, and then became the organist, accompanying his mother for their church at 8 years old. He continued to play at his church throughout his adolescent years until he moved to Tampa Florida.

Shawn has 4 beautiful children, three daughters and a son. They became his inspiration and taught him that his music was not just for monetary gain, but to inspire those that may be ill, feed the hungry and mentor young musicians!

I LOVE ST PETE EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND

who we are

A Facebook group started in 2009 looking to help build community and lend a hand to those in need across St. Pete has started a new venture.

Out of the "I Love St. Pete" group, creator and head administrator Stan Arthur says grew a newly opened nonprofit to help members in their time of financial need.

"We are now socially responsible to try to raise money to try to help our group members who are less fortunate or facing a financial emergency in the moment," Arthur said.

The idea came about in 2020 when someone Arthur knew of lost their car in an accident and asked if he could help them raise money. He says he turned to the "I Love St. Pete" Facebook group and in five days raised $3,500.

Stories like these aren't hard to come by in the group of 82,200 people that feel more like an online family than a group of strangers and the "magic" kept happening. So, Arthur decided to find a more permanent way to help members with the creation of the "I Love St. Pete Emergency Relief Fund."

"I think that the sky's the limit. I think that people, so many of them with good hearts, they understand exactly what so many others are going through at this time," Arthur said.

Here's how it works. Members of the Facebook group who are in good standing for more than six months and live in the St. Pete area are eligible to apply for relief.

It's a one‐time gift, as the nonprofit is not set up for ongoing support. You'll need to fill out a form with your request and will be asked to provide proof of your hardship.

According to Arthur, the support has been "phenomenal" with more than $1,000 being raised within 24 hours. He hopes that the nonprofit can help fill the void for people who need immediate assistance and can't wait for other types of aid. "If we can get somebody out of a jam that is gonna make the difference for them between winning and losing then we'll do that," Arthur said.

If you're an "I Love St. Pete" member looking for assistance or are interested in making either a one‐time or monthly donation to the relief fund you can visit helpstpete.org.

PINELLAS PAL

who we are

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Police Athletic League (PAL) is an independent nonprofit that serves at risk youth. PAL is an anticrime program. We exist to go into communities and offer positive programs for youth. In Pinellas we serve the Lealman area, the toughest most neglected neighborhood in the County.

PAL serves youth from kindergarten through 12th grade. We offer afterschool programs that feature academic enrichment, life skills, leadership, sports and youth employment activities.

Additionally, we have an outstanding Drumline program and have produced statewide champion PAL boxers. No child is denied services to PAL due to an inability to pay. The Lealman has many needs, PAL fills the gap by providing a safe place for Halloween each year serving 700-1000 kids and their families. Our Holiday program provide gifts to children and families with an emphasis on toiletries.

Our Back-to-School event connects families with service providers, eye screenings and a fully loaded backpack to start the school year. In the summer we work with our partners to take our rising juniors and seniors on a weeklong college tour visiting 10 campuses. All our programs begin with the idea that at PAL success starts here!

REMEMBER HONOR SUPPORT

who we are

We are your community connection to honor those who have proudly raised their right hand to take the oath to protect us and defend our country.

mission

to ensure americans remember the events of 9/11, honor our first responders, military, and veterans, and support families of the wounded and the fallen.

vision

to remember the price of freedom, honor the sacrifices, and support our first responders, military, veterans, and their families.

we support

RHS supports local heroes, agencies and their families throughout the year, as needs arise. RHS is proud to introduce our new initiative “Breaking Barriers” which will provide financial aid for our First Responder community and their families. These monies will support mental health behaviors such as PTSD, TBIs, and suicide prevention by providing mental health support, rehabilitation and therapeutic equipment, accessible housing, and retreats. We support organizations such as Operation Restore. Our plan is to also support youth education programs by having them participate in our events — with the goal of informing the next generation of the need to remember, honor and support our nation’s heroes, and to understand the significance of 9/11. RHS Community Outreach marks the expansion of our mission. Since our Inaugural Patriot Day Memorial Event in 2012, we have raised over half a million in proceeds. As we raise funds throughout the year, RHS aims to provide financial assistance to meet the on-going needs of local charities and programs that align with our mission. In addition to our 9/11 Memorial Event, we host two annual Bicycle Benefit Rides- RIDE4RHS Heroes: Memorial Day Monday and Veterans Day weekend. If you would like to organize a Fundraising event to support our mission, please reach out to us! Donations from individuals, corporations and organizations will be gratefully received at any point during the year, according to your giving schedule.
